Department of GI & General Surgery Unit 2 is led by HOD Brig General Dr Sushil Rawal (Rtd.), with Senior Consultant Col Dr. Srijan Malla (Rtd.), Senior Consultant lt Col Dr. Jyoti Rayamajhi (Rtd.) and Consultant Dr. Pawan Singh Bhat

Know Your Doctors
Dr Sushil Rawal is the Head of Department of General and GIHPB unit- 2. He has served 35years in the Nepali army post premature retirement and has joined Nepal Mediciti Hospital as a full time senior consultant surgeon. He has vast experience performing advanced Gastrointestinal and hepatobiliary surgeries. He is highly motivated, team oriented, compassionate with an attitude to uplift teaching and learning amongst colleagues and subordinates. He is interested in developing research and continued medical education in the department. Experience in teaching undergraduate, post graduate and GI Mch students His skill and knowledge has come from his immense hardwork and formal fellowships and trainings he had throughout his surgical career. He had formal advanced training in GIHPB from Madigan Army medical center, USA 2006, received the Gyan Burman fellowship in GIHPB and liver transplantation surgery from Sir Gangaram hospital, New Delhi India in 2008; Fellowship in GIHPB and Liver transplantation surgery, Chang Gung Memorial Hospital, Taiwan 2011; Fellowship in GIHPB and liver transplantation surgery, Kokilabaen Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital Mumbai 2014. He is trained in mass casualty and trauma management, Rambam Hospital Hifa Israel. He is well known for his experience in management of trauma and critically injured patient in the military service.
He has commanded various military medical units in International missions abroad and within the country. Since 2021 he has joined Nepal Mediciti hospital as a full time commitment with premature retirement from the Nepal Military Medical Corp, rank of Brigadier General from the portfolio of Clinical Registrar of Shree Birendra Army Hospital.
Col Dr. Srijan Malla (Rtd), also joined Mediciti hospital post premature retirement from the Nepal Army Medical Corps with his vast surgical experience of 23 years in the army. He is a calm, composed character with immense knowledge of General & gastrointestinal surgery. He has been dedicated to integrity, ethics and moral values throughout his surgical career. His skill in laparoscopic procedures are in the highest possible standard. He had graduated from NAMS (Bir Hospital) with MS degree in the year 2006. Since then he has mastered himself in performing general and advanced GI surgeries in Nepali army hospital. He had received numerous formal training in the field of surgery of which: FMAS, DMAS from World laparoscopy hospital in the year 2011; Training in minimal access and Robotic surgery from Sir Gangaram Hospital in the year 2013. He is an expert in general and advanced laparoscopic GI procedures such as Laparoscopic cholecystectomy, laparoscopic hernia repair (all abdominal/ inguinal hernias); laparoscopic appendectomy and advanced Colorectal and HPB surgeries. His special area of interest is in Minimal access surgery.
Dr. Jyoti Rayamajhi joined Mediciti hospital post premature retirement from the Nepal Army Medical Corps with his vast surgical experience of 20 years in the army. After her surgical training (MS General Surgery) in Nepal, she underwent training in Laparoscopic and GI surgery, trauma / mass casualty management in Nepal as well as training in Breast Onco and reconstructive surgeries, Surgical Oncology and Cosmetic surgery in various countries like India (Medanta), Singapore General Hospital, Memorial Sloan Kettering Hospital and Yale Hospital, USA. She has been working as Associate Prof in the Department of General Surgery in Army Hospital till date. She has rich experience of performing various complex benign and malignant Breast Surgery, GI and general surgeries, Plastic, Reconstructive as well as Laparoscopic surgeries in reputed hospitals in the country. She has many publications in various national and international journals and participated in medical conferences and Seminars worldwide. Her special area of interest includes Breast conservation surgeries for breast cancer / Oncoplastic surgeries and GI and Minimally Invasive Surgery.She is humble being with abundant knowledge in her field of work.
Dr. Pawan Singh Bhat: is an enthusiastic, skilled and well trained surgeon in general and GI surgery. He had pursued his surgical training as MS (General surgery) from People ’s Republic China, shanghai in the year 2015. He had worked in high volume MIS – gastrointestinal department in shanghai Rui Jin hospital for 3 years. He had good exposure on advanced laparoscopic procedures such as Laparoscopic hernia repair, Open/MIS colorectal surgery and Open/MIS gastric cancer surgery. His area of research was on management of gastric cancer. After his return to Nepal he had worked in Nepali Army hospital as General and GI surgeon. He had vast array of experience on surgical procedures of general and complex nature. His special area of interest is in gastrointestinal surgical oncology.
