The Division of Laboratory medicine & Pathology (LMP) in Nepal Mediciti is the largest diagnostic hospital-based medical laboratory service in Nepal. The LMP occupies more than 6,000 square feet in the first floor of Nepal Mediciti adjoining the Emergency Department. It is the first Category A level laboratory recognized by National Public Health Laboratory in our country.

It employs over 50 staffs including senior consultant pathologists, microbiologists, biochemist, quality manager, technical manager, transfusion medicine expert, section in-charges, technologists, technicians and supporting staff.
Surgical Pathology
Approximately 7000 biopsy and 6200 cytology cases are processed each year including both GYN and non-GYN cases. The laboratory staff provides superficial Fine Needle Aspiration services and supports image guided FNA procedures at the Department of Radiology. Every month on first Friday at 11 am, case of the month is presented.
Laboratory Medicine
It performs diagnostic routine and special tests. Certified technicians perform the tests with state-of- the-art automated analyzers. They perform manual microscopic and analytical procedures necessary to provide accurate result. It provides round the clock emergency service including point of care testing. Department of Microbiology & Immunology works closely with Infection Control committee to maintain an active infection control program that covers all the hospital areas. It is also involved in antimicrobial policy and stewardship.
Transfusion Medicine/Blood Bank
The aim of Blood Transfusion service is to make available appropriate, adequate and high quality of safe blood & blood components. At present, the department is actively involved to prepare plasma for the treatment of COVID-19 patients. The department is equipped with state of art technology including stem cell collection, therapeutic plasma exchange and single donor platelet collection.
Molecular & Genomic Pathology
The department is located in 8th floor of T1 building. The service started since 12th of August, 2020. We plan to start Non COVID tests (HPV, HCV, HIV, KRAS, NRAS, BRAF, MTB, H1N1)in future.
