Intragastric Balloon Procedure (IBP) is a nonsurgical, endoscopic procedure best suited to individuals who have a BMI (Body Mass Index) between 30 and 40 and will benefit from a comprehensive weight loss program. To qualify for IBP, one must be of age 22 or older, have been unsuccessful in achieving your weight loss goals through diet and exercise alone, be willing to participate in a medically supervised program, be able to attend regularly scheduled appointments as part of the follow-up program. The conditions that might prevent from qualifying for IBP include previous gastrointestinal surgery, a disease of the gastrointestinal tract, large hiatal hernia or structural abnormality in the larynx or esophagus, pregnancy, currently breastfeeding, or planning to become pregnant within six months, regular use of anticoagulants, anti- inflammatories, or other gastric irritants. After six months, the intragastric balloon is removed with another endoscopic procedure.
